CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns Cincinnati, OH

How Same-Day Dental Crowns Work to Improve Your Oral Health Quickly

What is a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns restore and strengthen the integrity of a weakened tooth structure from tooth decay or injury. These caps are placed over the remaining tooth to fortify it and are typically used after a root canal to save a tooth from a severe cavity. Crowns may also be used for cosmetic purposes for cracked, chipped or otherwise broken teeth.

Traditionally, dental crowns are a two-step process. Dr. Troy Pearce offers same-day crowns with the revolutionary CEREC technology to improve your oral health quickly and avoid complications with a temporary crown.

Traditional Crowns Versus Same-Day CEREC Crowns

Traditional dental crowns take two visits to our Cincinnati office. During your first appointment, measurements and bite impressions are taken, and these oral blueprints are sent to a laboratory where your permanent dental crown is fabricated. The damaged tooth is prepared and fitted with a temporary dental crown made of acrylic.

With the CEREC system, a temporary crown is not necessary. With Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic (CEREC), Pearce Dental Group is able to complete milling and 3D printing on-site to provide you with your custom dental crown and other dental restorations right there in the office. CEREC technology uses Primescan intraoral scanning to take high-resolution digital images of your teeth and bite. The supercomputer uses these files to fabricate your crown in as few as five minutes, milling and grinding the ceramic material then and there.

CEREC dental crowns offer higher customization with just one appointment so that you can enjoy a high-quality permanent crown right away. The precision of the CEREC system provides a better fit and involves less tooth preparation than the traditional crown process. The permanent CEREC crown is strong and protects the vulnerable tooth underneath, and with less tooth preparation, the underlying structure is less likely to develop an abscess (infection). Your tooth is securely bonded to the crown, which is perfectly sized to your dimensions and offers a natural appearance.

Advantages of Eliminating the Temporary Crown

Temporary crowns, which protect the weakened tooth underneath while a permanent crown is made off-site, have many shortcomings and often slip and come out, requiring another visit to the dentist. CEREC same-day dental crowns eliminate this concern. Benefits of same-day permanent crowns include:

Restore Full Tooth Function Immediately

Temporary crowns can make it difficult to eat and speak and may come with diet limitations to prevent the cap from falling off. CEREC crowns are securely bonded to the tooth on the same day of your tooth preparation.

Prevent Mouth Injury and Further Tooth Decay

Wearing a temporary crown for several days or over a week can come with some risk of hurting the inside of your mouth due to a poor fit. If the temporary crown falls off, the vulnerable tooth underneath may suffer more damage and tooth decay. CEREC crowns require less drilling, preserving more of the tooth, and same-day bonding avoids potential issues with temporary crowns.

Improved Tooth Comfort

Temporary crowns are designed to work in the interim and are made with composite resin. They often don’t fit as well as they should, making your mouth uncomfortable. CEREC crowns are customized to fit perfectly at your dental visit and should be well-fitting and comfortable right away.
