What Bite Issues Can Be Fixed with Invisalign Clear Braces?

Do you have biting issues? Invisalign clear braces can correct your bite without anyone noticing you are wearing braces. It transforms your smile. The dentists at Pearce Dental Group in Cincinnati explain how Invisalign clear braces can fix the majority of biting problems.

What Are Invisalign Clear Braces?

Invisalign clear braces are virtually invisible aligners designed to straighten teeth discreetly. No matter your age, if you would rather not use metal aligners for smile straightening, Invisalign is the clear choice in more ways than one.

Underbites

Underbites occur when the lower teeth are in front of the upper teeth when the mouth is closed. Underbites can result in chewing difficulties and can affect speech. Invisalign is an effective treatment for certain underbites. Severe underbites may respond to a combination of surgery and Invisalign.

Overbites

If your upper teeth close in front of your lower teeth, an overbite results. While overbites are common, in some patients large overbites result in jaw pain and excessive tooth wear. Invisalign is frequently used for overbite correction.

Crooked Bite

A crooked bite is also known as a misaligned bite. When Invisalign is used in conjunction with elastics, it can align the jaw properly. However, severe misalignment may require conventional orthodontics.

Open Bite

If your upper and lower teeth don’t touch when your mouth is closed, you have an open bite. An open bite may cause chewing or biting issues. For instance, biting into an apple is no simple task. Invisalign clear braces address and correct open bites.

Crossbites

When you close your mouth, do some of your upper teeth sit inside your lower teeth, instead of outside? That’s a crossbite. This condition wears down teeth and makes them vulnerable to chipping. It also increases the risk of gum recession. There are two types of crossbites: anterior and posterior. The former refers to crossbites on the front teeth, while the latter involves teeth placed further back in the mouth.

While Invisalign cannot fix every type of crossbite, it does work for many patients. Invisalign is often the primary treatment for anterior crossbites. For posterior crossbites, the use of expanders may accompany Invisalign clear braces. After an evaluation, the dentist will let you know whether Invisalign can fix your crossbite.
